Regional Water Company - Operational Efficiency

Business Requirements
The customer is a large UK regional water company responsible for providing access to high quality drinking water and waste water facilities in their area.

The customer was implementing a number of programmes to improve operational efficiency, in particular the cost of chemicals and energy consumption at a large number of water treatment plants


Application Overview
The business requirement was addressed by the development of a dashboard providing day to day reporting and management reports based on the OSIsoft RtWebParts products.

The responsibility of Indian Point was to install and commission the underlying PI System, install and commission the interfaces to the site control systems and implement the calculations for chemical and energy consumption for a sub set of the treatment plants. This also required designing and implementing interfaces to a number of the customer’s enterprise systems, as well as to a future data warehouse.

This project was carried out under a full software lifecycle programme from initial functional specification to system and integration testing and customer acceptance.

A second strand of the responsibilities of Indian Point was to carry out a comprehensive training programme in all of the OSIsoft products used in the project for around 50 of the customer’s personnel so that they would be in a position to continue to roll out the application to the remaining water treatment plants.

As the application is rolled out to the treatment plants, the customer is able to realise the benefits of real-time treatment costing information, and achieve the relevant objectives.
